Bob’s Hoagy Steaks: A Hayward Staple for Cheesesteaks and Sandwiches

God, I love this small Korean chain. The Fremont one's been gone for years and the owner has been friends with the Fremont owner for decades. When I asked if they planned to reopen elsewhere, he said that the Fremont owner had retired after the landlord sold off the land for redevelopment and due to an injury. What a shame, what an absolute shame. So on to the food, look, it's not fancy, it might even be best hoagie you've ever had (although mind you, the Bay's always been short on good hoagie spots), but it's good food made by locals. They've done well to keep prices affordable and the quality is more than enough for what you can expect out of a hole in the wall restaurant. This shop was never made for foodies, it was made for simple local people looking for cheap and good eats on a budget, and that's all it needed to be.

When you walk in you just know the food here is going to be banger. A true community joint. Very reasonable prices. Food is made when you order. Service is great too.

My husband has been coming here for over 30 years and this place never disappoints. Love the mushroom and Mexicana cheese steaks and everything is made fresh to order. I also have to mention how friendly the staff is. I've been told this has stayed in the family for that long and the inside is incredibly CLEAN!

I came here on a whim on a Sunday and realized they are closed on Sundays. I decided to come back on a Tuesday and was not disappointed! It's a small place tucked away in the corner of a shopping center. The inside is clean and quaint. The staff is very nice, they greeted me when I came in and when I grabbed my food to leave. The prices are affordable, and the steak sandwiches come with fries included! They have many other menu options, and I will definitely swing by again to try something different from them. I ordered the Bob's Hoagy. It was packed with meat and cheese. It also included fresh onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. There was a good balance of meat, cheese, and produce and a good portion for the price of $13! The fries it came with were perfectly cooked and crispy, and not too greasy.

Absolutely wonderful food, seems like a nice family run place. One of the best cheesesteaks I've had.

Everyone loves Bob's Hoagy Steaks. I was usually a customer at the old Fremont location where they knew me. Glad they had another location that I can still get my favorite cheesesteak at.
